We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Document > Discussion Paper
Description
The second paper in IRSHDC's UNDRIP discussion paper series is about the purpose and interpretation of the definition of “Indigenous Governing Bodies” in the context of DRIPA. By making observations about the inclusion of the definition in DRIPA, it helps to build understanding in this area of speculation. It also discusses the distinction between the questions of the proper Title and Rights holder and who represents the proper Title and Rights holder.

The series was drafted by Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond, Aki-kwe, in collaboration with Indigenous leaders and experts in this area.
