We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Description
"This report will attempt to shed some light on the issue of elder abuse that is finally receiving national and international attention. In addition, this report will highlight the categories and types of elder abuse that are recognized in Canada and worldwide and will include possible signs and symptoms for each form of abuse. A demographic profile of the elder Aboriginal population in Canada is provided. This includes the Aboriginal population’s current and future life expectancy rates, ‘dependency ratios’ and growth rate of ‘natural increase,’ which may help to predict the needs of the elder Aboriginal population in Canada in the forthcoming years as these factors may have an influence regarding violence" (Aboriginal Elder Abuse in Canada, Introduction, pg. 1).
