We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Bearing witness to these records may become overwhelming. If you are a Survivor or an Intergenerational Survivor and would like support, you can call the 24-hour National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at:

Description
Document consists of a letter from the principal of Ahousaht School to Mrs. J.C. Goodfellow in appreciation for the women's auxiliary contributions to Christmas celebrations at the School.
Curatorial Comment
The Woman's Missionary Society (WMS) had a natural interest in the students at the Ahousaht Residential School, as they owned the building, nominated staff, and contributed financially to the school for most of its history. This correspondence from the principal tells something of the children's activities at Christmas, and the role of church women in supporting the administration and activities at the school. The principal's language around "progress" is typical for the time.
