We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Bearing witness to these records may become overwhelming. If you are a Survivor or an Intergenerational Survivor and would like support, you can call the 24-hour National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at:

Timelines of Larry Loyie and Constance Brissenden's work and research activities

Archival File
1994-2000; 2003
Creators and Contributors
Description
Includes materials outlining the research activities of Larry Loyie and Constance Brissenden beginning in 1993 while working on a proposed book called “Living Traditions of the First Nations.” To learn more about this proposed work see the file titled "Living Traditions of the First Nations: Early book proposal."

At this time Loyie and Brissenden were travelling to conduct research for their book through the assistance of a Canada Council Explorations Grant. Although an important undertaking, writing "Living Traditions of the First Nations" proved to be too daunting a prospect as creation would have required extended resources and a larger team. As a result, the project was never completed. However, the research was not lost and would eventually become the basis for much of Loyie and Brissenden’s future writing.

Includes:
  • Timeline that reflects Loyie and Brissenden's research activities from 1993-2000
  • List of all readings and workshops delivered in 2003
