The Legacy of Hope Foundation (LHF) is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that was founded in 2000. Its mission is “to educate and foster Reconciliation and to create just and equal relationships among all people in Canada . . . by teaching about the true history of Residential Schools, the Sixties Scoop, and the injustices Indigenous Peoples endure and by bringing to light the varied and rich contributions to the foundation of this country that Indigenous Peoples made and continue to make.” The Foundation addresses its mandate by creating curriculum resources, producing mobile exhibitions, offering workshops and training, and making available research reports on the ongoing impacts of residential schools and the Sixties Scoop on First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Survivors, their families, and their communities. Working with schools, universities, government organizations, unions, businesses and private citizens, and collaborating closely with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples, communities, and organizations, the Legacy of Hope takes as its guiding principle that its work “must contribute to the health, safety, well-being, and healing of Survivors, their families, and communities, and towards promoting reconciliation in Canada.” The Foundation’s vision for Canada is that “informed, capable, and respectful persons live as equals in a mutually beneficial, caring, dignified, and just relationship of reconciliation, for the better future of all Peoples and the Land” (Legacy of Hope Foundation
