We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Bearing witness to these records may become overwhelming. If you are a Survivor or an Intergenerational Survivor and would like support, you can call the 24-hour National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at:

Legacy of Hope Foundation Collection

Description
This collection includes selected materials from the Legacy of Hope Foundation, including the video collections Our Stories…Our Strength and Bi-Giwen: Coming Home – Truth Telling from the Sixties Scoop. The Legacy of Hope Foundation is a national, Indigenous-led, charitable organization that was founded in 2000 to educate Canadians about residential schools and their ongoing legacy in child welfare initiatives such as the Sixties Scoop. The Foundation’s mandate is to facilitate Survivors’ healing, address anti-Indigenous racism, and foster just relationships among Canadians. Over the last twenty years, the Legacy of Hope has developed a collection of videos that accompany its ground-breaking exhibits. The Our Stories...Our Strength residential school Survivor stories, which were recorded in various communities across Canada between 2004 and 2008, share Survivors' personal and often painful accounts of residential school and its ongoing impact on their lives, families, and communities. The Bi-Giwen series feature first-person oral testimonies of Indigenous Survivors of the Sixties Scoop, and reflects upon their pain and loss. Both sets of videos, along with the other materials in this collection, honour Survivors’ enduring strength, courage and resilience.
