We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Bearing witness to these records may become overwhelming. If you are a Survivor or an Intergenerational Survivor and would like support, you can call the 24-hour National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at:

Media investigation into failed fundraising campaign

Summer 2021
Description
Noting the heightened need for funding to support the healing of Survivors and Inter-generational Survivors, CBC and The Globe and Mail revisited the failed fundraising efforts of the Catholic Church. They completed an investigation into the wealth of the Catholic Church in Canada and found that the Church had collected a combined $886-million in donations in 2019 alone. They then submitted a formal application to the Court of Queen’s Bench for Saskatchewan to access the court files from the 2015 decision. (The files had not been released to the public despite their not being sealed nor having a publication ban on them). In September, Justice Neil Gabrielson granted the CBC and The Globe and Mail access to files of interest. (Click here to view the legal documents.)
