White Paper

1969
Description
A policy paper entitled "Statement of the Government of Canada on Indian Policy", also called, the "White Paper" was released in 1969. The White Paper sought to eliminate Indian status including a recommendation to abolish treaties and the Indian Act. Backlash against the White Paper brought several Indigenous voices to the forefront and promoted activism for Indigenous rights.
