We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Bearing witness to these records may become overwhelming. If you are a Survivor or an Intergenerational Survivor and would like support, you can call the 24-hour National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at:

The Story of a National Crime: An Appeal of Justice to the Indians of Canada

1922
Description
Dr. P. H. Bryce published his report The Story of a National Crime: An Appeal of Justice to the Indians of Canada based on the unreleased survey of 35 residential schools he conducted for the Department of Indian Affairs. The report detailed the poor health conditions at residential schools. Although Bryce was not the only doctor to protest conditions at schools, his was the first report distributed to the public at large on the disease and death rates at residential schools.
