Description
"Saqiyuq paints a vivid portrait of the transformations that have taken place in the lives of three generations of Inuit women from Canada's Eastern High Artctic. A grandmother, daughter, and and granddaughter take us on a remarkable journey in which the cycles of life - childhood, adolescence, marriage, birthing and child rearing - are explored through the contrasting experiences of three successive generations. Apphia Awa, born in 1931, experienced traditional life while Rhoda Katsak, her daughter, was part of the transitional generation sent to government schools. Sandra Katsak, Rhoda's daughter, grew up in Pond Inlet with coffee shops and video games but also drugs and alcohol. The memories and reflections of these three women provide poignant insights into the history of the people of the new territory of Nunavut."--back cover.
