We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Description
"This video is a special message to youth, based on the poem of Salutation, an oral tribute of respect and homage to the Elders. The need for healing between Native and non-Native communities is addressed in this work. Traditionally, it is the Elders that assist the individual, the family and the community emotionally, physically and spiritually. Despite residential schools and legislated outlawing of cultural knowledge, the Elders have endured. Suffering through racism and pain they retain what they had been given and taught by their Elders. Native cultures were never "dead". They have been kept alive in the quiet whispers of the Elders. A collage of voices of the Elders, music, theatre, poetry and dance. Elders speak and advise the youth."
