"Bill C - 31 was introduced in the Parliament of Canada on February 28, 1985 and became law on June 28, 1985. The Government's background notes explain that the proposed amendments are meant to address provisions which discriminate on the basis of sex, race or unfairness and the federal government's role in determining band membership."
