We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Bearing witness to these records may become overwhelming. If you are a Survivor or an Intergenerational Survivor and would like support, you can call the 24-hour National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at:

Description
Document consists of minutes of a meeting of the Comox-Nanaimo Presbytery at Queens Avenue United Church, New Westminster, B.C. on May 9th, 1967.
Curatorial Comment
Comox-Nanaimo Presbytery is a governance body that oversees the churches on Vancouver Island, north of Greater Victoria. This set of minutes contains a plan for a coordinated approach to ministry in the Alberni Valley. It includes information on clergy and Christian education workers assigned to the Alberni Indian Student Residence in the context of the broader plan. This excerpt is from a transitional period in the 1960s, when the United Church was beginning to withdraw from involvement with the residential school system.
