We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Bearing witness to these records may become overwhelming. If you are a Survivor or an Intergenerational Survivor and would like support, you can call the 24-hour National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at:

Alberni Indian Residential School Scrapbook
Pacific Mountain Regional Council Archives

Archival Item
19 Dec. 1962 to 12 Jan. 1968
Document > Scrapbook
Related School
Alberni (BC)
Description
Document consists of a scrapbook of newspaper clippings relating to the Alberni Indian Residential School.
Curatorial Comment
This scrapbook was probably compiled by a staff member, and consists mainly of clippings from the Twin Cities Times (Port Alberni) and Alberni Valley Times. The clippings feature many of the students, staff, and clergy associated with the School and residence. News stories also reveal a range of academic, social, athletic, and cultural activities of the students. The scrapbook bridges the transition of Alberni IRS from both school and residence (to 1965) to residence only (from September 1965 on).
