We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Bearing witness to these records may become overwhelming. If you are a Survivor or an Intergenerational Survivor and would like support, you can call the 24-hour National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at:

Description
Document is a booklet about Coqualeetza Institute, containing images of staff and school (including students), a foreword written by the principal (Rev. G.H. Raley) and a history of the school.
Curatorial Comment
This promotional publication was Principal George Raley's personal copy. It dates from the year that the new Coqualeetza building was completed. Images show some of the rooms inside the main building, as well as the barn and principal's residence. Descriptions reveal the educational philosophy, cultural assumptions and attitudes of the principal. A timeline of the School and list of First World War soldiers associated with the School provide for a succinct information resource. Telling is the pictorial tribute to the men behind the new school and residence, including Duncan Campbell Scott, then Deputy Superintendent of Indian Affairs.
