We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Bearing witness to these records may become overwhelming. If you are a Survivor or an Intergenerational Survivor and would like support, you can call the 24-hour National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at:

Description
Valerie Dudoward interviews Shirley Harding and former United Church Moderator, Bob Smith regarding church responses to Residential Schools.
Curatorial Comment
These two church leaders share their thoughts on how the churches "woke up" to the negative impacts of residential schools on the Aboriginal peoples of Canada. Each of them speaks about their denomination's way of coming to terms with their past, and their personal motivations and commitment to living out an apology. The host and guests also reflect on the problems of fatigue over the issue, in both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal communities.
