We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Bearing witness to these records may become overwhelming. If you are a Survivor or an Intergenerational Survivor and would like support, you can call the 24-hour National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at:

Description
Brief history and description of the Morley Indian Residential School, likely written by Telfer.
Curatorial Comment
This three-page document provides a brief but detailed account of the school and its daily operations. In addition to school activities, the document mentions the monthly visits students and their families had – which were revoked if the student ran away from the school – and older students making clothing for their younger siblings in their spare time.

Most likely written by Jean Telfer, a white staff member and UBC graduate, this document provides a limited perspective with racist assumptions and beliefs implied or stated throughout.
