"This is the true story of Ernie George, an elderly man we met, hitching, on crutches, in 30 degree weather. When asked how many people had passed him, in the 6 hours that he had been there, he replied, 'many'. We inquired why he was hitching 250km, and he explained that he needed to see a doctor about his crutches and bath seat that had not been delivered to him. When asked how he would be getting home, we were surprised to hear he would be hitching, so we offered him a ride. The next day, Ernie took us to the cemetery, where his Great Grandmother was buried. After the cemetery we visited the niece of Leon and Annie George. On our journey to Johnson Bay Landing Ernie told us many stories of his childhood.
