Description

"Beaver and Porcupine is a retelling of a traditional Tlingit story in which the friends Beaver and Porcupine discover that although they are different, their friendship makes them kind, respectful, and caring of each other.  The book concludes with Teachings from Turtle Island and Turtle Island Circle, features that provide additional information and prompt reflection and extension.

All the sentences are short and simple.  Humorous illustrations support the text directly.  Quotation marks are used in dialogue. Italic type and ellipses are used to enhance meaning.  Uppercase letters are used to create the characters’ names.

The vocabulary reflects the everyday speech of children.

This title is from the Turtle Island Voices series. Pique students’ interest in learning about Aboriginal peoples and cultures with exciting stories and information texts"--publisher's website.
