Attorney General of Canada

Description
The Attorney General is the chief law officer of the Crown. They act in the public interest, including upholding the Constitution, the rule of law and the independence of the courts. The Attorney General conducts litigation on behalf of the government and provides legal advice and legislative services to government departments and agencies. The Attorney General of Canada was involved in the negotiation of the 2006 Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement (IRSSA), and its subsequent implementations. Canada has oversight over the IRSSA parties’ financial and other obligations, which included those of the Corporation of Catholic Entities Party to the Indian Residential School Settlement (CCEPIRSS).
