We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Bearing witness to these records may become overwhelming. If you are a Survivor or an Intergenerational Survivor and would like support, you can call the 24-hour National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at:

Federal Hostel at George River (QC)

Dates of Operation
June 27, 1960 - August 6, 1960
Description
In the summer of 1959, the Federal Government operated a temporary school at the mouth of the Koruk River in Quebec. During the summer of 1960 the government ran a school and hostel at the site. The children and staff lived in tents at the site, while the community hall served as classroom and dining hall. Although the school continued after 1960, the government decided not to run the hostel after this one summer. (National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation)
