We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Bearing witness to these records may become overwhelming. If you are a Survivor or an Intergenerational Survivor and would like support, you can call the 24-hour National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at:

Lapointe Hall (NWT)

Dates of Operation
October 1, 1960 - June 30, 1988
Description
During its operation, LaPointe Hall was plagued by incidents of illness and reports of ill-treatment of students. LaPointe closed in the early 1970s, but reopened in 1975 under an agreement between the Territorial government and the Koe Go Cho Society. The Society operated the school with Territorial government funding. When the Anglican hostel in the community, Bompas Hall, closed in 1975, students and some staff were brought to LaPointe Hall, which was now non-denominational. In 1985 the Territorial government signed an agreement with the Deh Cho Regional Council to operate the facility. (National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation)
