We welcome you to the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

The records on our site emerge from the cultural and physical genocide that the Canadian government and churches conducted through the Indian Residential School System, including the ongoing impacts.

Bearing witness to these records may become overwhelming. If you are a Survivor or an Intergenerational Survivor and would like support, you can call the 24-hour National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at:

Bompas Hall (NWT)

Dates of Operation
October 5, 1960 - March 31, 1975
Description
In 1960 the federal government opened two hostels in Fort Simpson, Bompas and LaPointe Halls. Students staying in the hostels attended the local day school. Throughout its history, enrollment at Bompas Hall was chronically low and had to be shored up by transferring students from other residences. The administration of Bompas Hall was transferred to the Territorial government in 1969, although the Anglican Church continued to operate the facility. The residence was closed from June 1972 to September 1973. In 1974, the Koe Go Cho society assumed responsibility for the operation of the school. (National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation
