Assiniboia (MB)

Description
The Assiniboia School opened in south Winnipeg in 1958 in a building that had served as both a former private girls’ school and a veterans’ home. Although it was originally intended to serve simply as a residence for students from a number of rural reserves, it operated as a school until 1967. From then on it operated as a residence for students until its closure. (National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation)

"Point is on the classroom building that was part of the Assinboine Residential School. The main school and residential building was situated at 49.875060, -97.200326 and has been torn down. The Assiniboine Residential School was located on 621 Academy Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba. The remaining building is now used by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection and the west part of the property is used by the RCMP" (Orlandini, 2019).
